On Thursday 7th March, Patsy Murphy from Muntons in Stowmarket presented a cheque of £685 to The Stowmarket Target Club, which is a social club for adults with severe learning and physical disabilities.
The employees of Muntons in Stowmarket raised a total of £1370 as a result of a prize draw, for two local charities. The money raised has been split between Stowmarket Target Club and Stepping Stones & Stowmarket and Area Opportunity Group, who run an inclusive nursery as well as opportunity groups to offer support for children and families with additional needs.
For the first year ever the draw prizes were purchased from Argos and Sainsbury’s using nectar points that the company had accumulated as a result of linking its DHL postage account to the nectar point scheme. Prizes purchased for the draw included premium items such as an Apple ipad, Kindle Fire and an Apple ipod.
The money from Muntons will help boost the Target Clubs funds, enabling them to do more fun activities this year. Mrs Gurney, the Target Club Leader commented, ‘The money will be used to subsidise activities such as a meal at the Cedars Hotel, tickets to the New Wolsey Theatre pantomime, a disco and a magician to entertain the members one evening. Members of the club really look forward to all of these occasions and enjoy dressing in their ‘best’ clothes to go to the theatre and out for a meal. We will have a lot of fun thanks to your generosity’.
The Target club is so important to those with disabilities in the local area. It is held once a week and offers fun activities and a lot of laughter to all of its attendees and also gives valuable respite for family members. The club gives members the opportunity to make friends and build relationships with others and they look forward to meeting up and socialising with them once a week at the club.
