Raw Materials: Malt, Hops & Yeast
Muntons cordially invites you to the Raw Materials Seminar series.
Industry specialists from Muntons, Simply Hops and Lallemand will provide you with a technical overview on these core ingredients. ‘Malt’ will cover all aspects of malt styles and applications, ‘Hops’ will go over the compositions and applications, sampling and dry hopping. ‘Yeast’ will include the management of different and new varieties and some flavours can be used.

England and Wales
Jim the Brewer as he is lovingly referred to by all that know him, has been working as a craft brewer for as long as he could lift a sack of malt. Famous for the Jim Wilson Bitter at Tap East, and for his enthusiasm and drive when fighting the corner of the smaller brewer; including on one memorable occasion the government itself.
Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia
The newest of the Simply Hops sales team and one of those people who just knows a lot of “stuff”. Having spent many years as a cuckoo brewer, he’s a wealth of knowledge when it comes to hops and his passion shines through every time you hear him speak
Anglo-German Brewer trained in Weihenstephan, near Munich. Experience includes macro brewing in Germany at Paulaner, Micro brewing at Navigation Brewery. Studied brewing science whilst working at Brauerei im Eiswerk, a microbrewery in Munich as their event host and beer sommelier. Fabian is also qualified as a brewing instructor, a dispensing technician and a quality management specialist.
Robert is a qualified brewing professional with extensive experience in quality and technical roles in beer production, having been a Technical Brewer and QA analyst, with quality experience across manufacturing and packaging for both multi-national and regional brewing companies in the UK. Now working for yeast and bacteria specialists Lallemand as technical sale manager for Europe, he was the IBD young brewer of the year 2013/14 and is an expert in the fields of fermentation and cask beer production. In 2016 Robert qualified as a Doemans Beer Sommelier via the World Brewing Academy program.
Technical Sales Manager
Andy is a degree qualified brewer having studied biochemistry before completing a masters in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. He started his career at the then much smaller Brewdog brewery in Scotland before moving to Dark Star Brewing in Sussex where he rose through the ranks to become Head Brewer. He has specialised in quality control and during his time at Dark Star installed a laboratory and designed new operating practices to ensure that beer met specification.
Cedars Intake Manager
Will joined the malting industry 5 years ago having completed a Masters in Chemistry at University. In that time he has achieved both the Malting Diploma and the Master Maltster qualifications, achieving the prestigious Walter Hyde Award for outstanding performance. He now runs the barley intake at Cedars Maltings in Stowmarket.
Ceders Maltings Manager
George has been in the malting industry for a number of years, working in a multitude of roles throughout the industry. He is part of the management team at Cedars Maltings at Stowmarket implementing a number of improvements to the production facility.
