Muntons plc – Executive Directors
Mark joined Muntons in 2017 in the new role of Deputy Managing Director and became Managing Director in January 2018. He has held senior positions with Proctor and Gamble, Tesco, Premier Foods and was latterly Chief Executive of Jeyes Group. Mark has had many years of international experience with roles in Africa, the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe. Born in Beverley, Yorkshire, Mark comes from a family with a background in agriculture and the food industry. He grew up in the Suffolk area before studying law at Nottingham University. Amongst his interests are music, wildlife, skiing, golf and football.
Tim joined Muntons plc as a Malt Sales Manager in 1988, originally based in Scotland and specialising in the sales of malt to the Scotch whisky industry. Tim then moved into the UK domestic and international brewing malt markets and he was appointed to the Board of Muntons plc as Group Malt Sales Director in 1997. For six years Tim represented the UK malting Industry at the Trade Committee of EUROMALT in Brussels rising to be Vice Chairman. Tim has recently returned to active duty at EUROMALT and is now one of the Vice Presidents EUROMALT. Tim has completed 25 years in the malting industry, all with Muntons plc. Outside interests include rugby, skiing, reading and the occasional round of golf.
Neil joined Muntons in 1987 on a management training programme and has held various roles in logistics, administration, and UK and export sales. He was appointed to the board in August 2005 and his current remit includes sales, marketing, customer services, demand and supply planning and group warehousing and logistics. He is a director of Muntons Ingredients Asia Pte Ltd and is President of Muntons Malted Ingredients Inc. In his younger days Neil enjoyed playing rugby and on occasions still turns out for the Stowmarket Veterans XV. He is a fanatical supporter of Harlequins and England Rugby. He enjoys keeping fit through circuit training and spin and has two sons who delight in running him ragged on the squash court.
Dr Nigel Davies
Nigel is Manufacturing and Sustainability Director of Muntons. His remit is directing the manufacture and technical support of malt and malted ingredients and he also has board level responsibility for procurement, environment, health and safety and quality compliance. He is passionate about making real differences in environmental sustainability within the malting supply chain and has spearheaded the company’s carbon footprinting initiative. Previously he has been a research scientist in cereals and a lecturer in cell biology at London University and outside Muntons acts as an expert witness in cases where food safety of cereals is at issue. Interests include playing piano, learning sign language to communicate with deaf and deaf and blind people and cycling.
Andy joined Muntons in March 2018 as Group Finance Director. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant, with more than 20 years’ experience in senior positions in the food industry with Cadbury Schweppes, Campbell Soup and Bernard Matthews, where he was Group Finance Director. Most recently, Andy was Group CFO at the Jeyes Group, leading the business through a successful exit on behalf of its Private Equity owners. Andy has significant international experience having lived and worked in the USA, Bermuda, the Netherlands, and the Republic of Ireland. Andy is a keen golfer and a Norwich City season ticket holder.
Muntons plc – Non Executive Directors
Paul has been involved with Muntons as a non-executive director, and more recently as Chairman of the company, for many years. His experience working at the Charles Wells brewery stands him in good stead, providing a terrific insight into an important area of business for the company, the UK brewing industry. Paul has worked at Charles Wells since 1983 when he joined the company as their London salesman. His favourite beer is a pint of Eagle IPA. It is Paul’s understanding of the commercial aspects of business, which he has gleaned during his years in business in his executive capacity, which brings a sense of wisdom and balance to the Muntons board.
Mark Joined Muntons in 2007 as a Non-Executive Director. His business experience is considerable, drawn from his position with one of the worlds’ largest real estate services and investment firms.
He also holds the position as a Non-Executive Director of Oakley Properties and an Executive Director at CBRE Ltd, London – Real Estate since September 2008. In addition, Mark has worked in the City, Midtown and Docklands office market since 1987. He has advised developers and landlords on many leasing projects and has also an extensive list of corporate occupiers, formulating strategy and concluding transactions. He has been active in the city office market for over 25 years.
John has extensive senior management and leadership experience in the global food industry having latterly served as a Divisional CEO of ABF plc a FTSE 100 plc. He also served as Managing Director of The Silver Spoon Company of British Sugar plc and Marketing Director of United Biscuits Confectionary. After retiring in October 2010 he was retained by ABF in roles of Chairman of The Jordans Ryvita Company and an NED on the board of AB Worldfoods. In May 2011 appointed as an NED at AG Thames Holdings, which with sales of £300m is one of the UK’s largest and most successful fruit businesses. John participates in key trade associations and is a keen golfer, gardener and enjoys sailing.
Vice President External Affairs
Following a degree in Zoology and 2 years working for the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food Alan joined Muntons at Bridlington in 1980 as Trainee Grain Buyer. Alan moved to Stowmarket in 1983 to take up the role as Grain Buyer returning again to Bridlington in 1987 to become Regional Grain Buyer and back to Stowmarket in 1994. During this time he worked in the farming, pet food and grain merchanting operations then owned by the business. Alan was appointed Grain Director in 1994, which also encompassed heading up the Malt Division becoming Deputy Managing Director in 2005 and Managing Director in January 2006 until 2018. Alan is a keen angler and enjoys most sports including playing badminton and cricket. Alan is currently enjoying a 6-month sabbatical but will be returning in the role of vice president External Affairs in an ambassadorial role.
